Boar bristles are the best you can use on your hair because they distribute the oils to the ends. Not meaning that they make your hair oily, but take the oils from the top of your head in order to condition your hair where it's most dry...the ends.
Because of this, they've been used and recommended forever. In stores, unless I'm specifically in a beauty shop, I can usually only find boars bristles MIXED with plastic which I've never found to do as good of a job keeping my hair in great shape as the pure boar bristles...and, oddly, they are actually higher priced than this. This is the cheapest 100% boar bristle brush I've found so I was elated as it's a staple in my beauty routine, I left my other one in Florida, and I figure since there is no tax that helps out some in spite of shipping so it still comes out cheaper than what I've found in a store and of better quality. As age advances we find that hair migrates southward from the formerly covered prominences, to less appropriate areas (ie, ears, back, shoulders, NOSTRILS, for goodness sake!). As you get older, you will find that hair thins with advancing age, and you will need a (very) fine comb or soft brush to manipulate it into place. This is that brush. If your hands are arthritic, by the time your hair completes it's migration, you will find the shape of this brush is good, as it does not have a handle (yes, its a military style hair brush). You will find the bristle texture is softer than nylon, and it allows you to slow migration to the lower slopes. If you have a full head of hair, this is not designed for you. It will not penetrate through the underbrush to till the soil on top of Old Baldy. It IS DESIGNED FOR THINNING HAIR atop your aged dad, or grandfather.
